The CRA call centre is operational from Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM local time. Based on general user experiences, the call centre tends to be the busiest during the early morning hours (9 AM - 12 PM) and during the period immediately after lunch (1 PM - 3 PM).

You must contact the CRA using the form provided or call them on their general enquiries line. The CRA agent should be able to unlock your return. Once your return is unlocked please email us (Wealthsimple Tax) with the specific NETFILE error so we can help you fix it before you attempt to submit again.

While the CRA aims to respond to all callers, there will be periods when all its agents are fully occupied answering individuals' calls. During these times, you may need to make a few attempts to reach us, and the option to speak to an agent may not be immediately available.

Be sure to include any relevant details, such as your CRA account number or the date of the decision you're disputing. Once you've outlined the purpose of your letter, provide any supporting information or documents that will help the CRA understand your request or concern.

The best time of day to call customer service is in the morning. On average, call center wait times are 70% shorter before noon (between 5am and 12pm).

The CRA will not use text messages or instant messages to start a conversation about your taxes, benefits, or My Account. The CRA will not ask you by email or text message to click a link and provide personal or bank information to receive a benefit payment.

Toll-free numbers are numbers that begin with one of the following three-digit codes: 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 or 833. Although 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 and 833 are all toll-free codes, they are not interchangeable.

To call Canada simply dial your exit country code, the Canada country code and the area phone code shown below, all before your local number.

As discussed, the toll-free number prefix can be 1800 or 1300 or 800/844/855, etc. So, to call an 1800 number from overseas, you would dial: xxx (your country's exit code) + yyy (destination country's ISD code) + 1800 + zzz zzzz (destination business's toll-free phone number).

Technically speaking, an international customer cannot call a 1-800 number for free. Toll-free numbers are bound by the restrictions, coverage maps, and dialing format of the country it belongs to. Toll-free numbers are free to use if the caller is in the same country as the business.

Calling a 800 number from Mexico, specifically, just requires you to format the phone number a little differently. To successfully dial this number, you need to change the 800 prefix of the number. Instead, dial 001 then 880 and then the rest of the phone number.
